Charity Evaluation Framework
Introduction
Charitable giving is a powerful way to uplift communities, but donors often face the critical question of how to ensure contributions truly reach those in need. While independent Charity Evaluators provide transparency globally, this assurance has long been missing in South Africa, where donors have traditionally relied on internal NGO reports with little external verification.
The Muslim Integrated Development Plan (MIDP) has pioneered a new approach: “Independent charity evaluation and monitoring, tailored to the Muslim giving ecosystem”. Through this framework, donors gain confidence that their Zakaat, Lillah, Sadaqah, and other contributions are Shariah-compliant, transparent, and produce measurable impact.
The Role of the MIDP
The MIDP introduces independent monitoring to the Muslim Giving Ecosystem both in Durban and nationally. Our primary functions include:
• Reviews: Analysing NGO activities and financial flows.
• Assessments: Evaluating whether projects achieve their stated goals.
• Reporting: Providing clear, accessible reports that donors can trust.
• Gap Filling: Offering an integrated approach that provides the confidence and accountability seen globally.
Benefits for Donors
• Confidence: Donations are tracked and verified.
• Impact: Ensuring funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
• Transparency: Reducing risks of misuse through independent monitoring.
• Legacy: Building trust and credibility in charitable giving.
